Unlike the arid, desert-like environment of the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, much of Lower Egypt consisted of humid, swampy land. The lack of preservation is unsurprising, given the environment that Psusennes was buried in. (Dave Nakayama / CC BY 2.0 ) Reassessing the Third Intermediate Period The mummy of Psusennes itself had not survived the ages, and instead of an intact body Montet only found a pile of bones, black dust and various funerary items, including a gold mummy board and a spectacular solid gold mask which would have covered the pharaoh’s face. Interestingly, the granite sarcophagus once belonged to a 19th Dynasty pharaoh, Merenptah, who was the successor of Ramesses II. Psusennes’ silver anthropoid coffin was found within a pink granite coffin, which in turn was encased within a granite sarcophagus. Furthermore, the exceptional craftsmanship of the metal objects found inside the tomb, including the silver coffin, suggests that Psusennes also commanded the manpower needed to produce such luxurious items. Although gold was more abundant in ancient Egypt, silver was even more valuable as it had to be imported from Western Asia and the Mediterranean.Īs such, the solid silver coffin found in Psusennes' tomb was a testament to his immense wealth and power. In ancient Egyptian culture, gold was considered the flesh of the gods, while silver was believed to be their bones. The most remarkable find in the tomb was a solid silver coffin, leading to Psusennes being referred to as the Silver Pharaoh. Nevertheless, the discovery of the tomb of Psusennes I overturned this assumption. It was logically assumed that the pharaohs of the 21st Dynasty did not wield much power. Meanwhile, Thebes was the stronghold of the High Priest of Amun, who presided over Upper Egypt. While the pharaohs of the 21st Dynasty governed from Tanis, their influence was primarily confined to the Lower Egypt delta region. 20 Awesome Sarcophagi of the Ancient Worldĭuring this era, the country's kingship was fragmented, and the country was divided between Upper and Lower Egypt. The Real Reason Tutankhamun, Akhenaten, and Cleopatra are the Superstars of Ancient Egypt.Psusennes was the third ruler of his dynasty, which ascended to power at the onset of the Third Intermediate Period, a time of political turmoil in Egypt. Montet’s discovery on the eve of the Second World War was that of a tomb of a relatively obscure pharaoh of the 21st Dynasty of ancient Egypt by the name of Psusennes I. The find was on par with the legendary discovery of the intact tomb of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun, made by Howard Carter two decades earlier. Amidst the chaos of the Second World War in Western Europe, a French archaeologist named Pierre Montet unearthed a stunning treasure in 1940 in Tanis, Egypt.

The episode is a standout for showing both the lengths Leslie is willing to go for Ron, as well as the lengths Tammy II (Megan Mullally) is willing to go just to keep control over her ex. This episode is at its best when it's showcasing just how extreme and over-the-top the town can truly be and how above and beyond Leslie and her team will go to give them the parks they deserve. Soon, she can't help but get swept up in the festivities when the apparently vibrant gay community in the town heralds her as a hero. At first, she wants to get the political stink off of her. Suddenly, she finds herself thrust into the debate over gay marriage. When Leslie tries to manufacture a photo opportunity by presiding over the wedding of two penguins at the local zoo, she's shocked by the political fallout that arises when it's revealed the animals were both males. It sets up the contrast of Leslie and those around her being incredible at their jobs, but to a completely indifferent and ungrateful community. Sure, there was the occasional town meeting that demonstrated how wacky the local government can be, but "Pawnee Zoo" gave the little Indiana town its own personality for the first time. This episode is one of the first to feature the most underrated character in Parks and Rec: the town of Pawnee, Indiana. However, the best part comes when the typically apathetic Ron Swanson comes alive for the first time to tell the official investigation committee that Leslie has never broken a rule in her life, "to the point that it's annoying." In his first of many strangely endearing tough guy moves throughout the series, Ron tells the investigators that they'll have to go through him if they want to do anything more than give her a slap on the wrist. While Leslie had always thought being good at her job meant blending into the boys' club, she learns here that she can do right by Pawnee in her own way, regardless of what the men in government do, say or think.Īnother bright spot in this episode is the loyalty the team shows for one another, with Leslie accepting her first official reprimand in order to defend April, who foolishly posted an old video of herself drunk at 19 on a public website. What ensues is an ethical dilemma in which the audience learns just how much Leslie cares about her job. When Leslie and Ann try to crash the guys' regular party, she opens up a gift basket filled with wine to keep the party going. NBCĪ running theme throughout Parks and Recreation is the uphill battle women face trying to make it in a government largely run by men. However, if there's one thing that Leslie and the gang proved, it's that anything can be done if you just find your team and get to work. Whether it was the impossibly optimistic Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler), stern libertarian Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman), swag-obsessed Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), indifferent April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza), loveable dimwit Andy Dwyer (Chris Pratt), incomparable Donna Meagle (Retta), level-headed Ben Wyatt (Adam Scott), relentlessly positive Chris Traeger (Rob Lowe), rainbow-infused space unicorn Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones), and even perpetual prank victim Jerry Gergich (Jim O'Heir), each character was good at what they did in their way and always tried to help their fellow citizens.įor a series as uneven yet frequently brilliant as Parks and Rec, singling out the top 25 episodes can be a challenging feat. In a world packed with cynicism about government and the people that run it, the 2009-2015 NBC comedy endures not only for being funny, but for providing hope that, with the right public servants in place (especially at the local level), America can be a truly nice place to live, quirky high jinx and all. Parks and Recreation didn't come out of the gate as one of the best sitcoms of the last decade, but, over the course of seven seasons and 125 episodes, the citizens of Pawnee, Indiana, amassed a loyal fanbase in some pretty unexpected ways. It turns out that Seung-soo used to be Ji-hyo’s acting teacher, and she gripes to Jae-suk: “You said was Jeon Ji-hyun!” Like how Ji-hyo skips around with Dong-joon and how Gary and Sang-hwa have already bonded. We finally get to meet Jae-suk’s teammate at the train station-none other than actor Ryu Seung-soo ( Wonderful Season), who asks two very important questions: “Do they feed us?” “Where are we going?” I like how you think, sir.Įven though we’ve got a seemingly random group of guests this time around, it’s nice to see that our pairings generally get along. When it looks like the traffic might hold them up, Gary uplifts the mood by joking that they’ll take any train and stand if they have to. It’s pretty heartwarming to see Sang-hwa open up to Gary about the surmounting stress and rigorous training as an athlete, and then equally touching to see how empathetic Gary is to those experiences. She shares about the pressures of defending her Olympic gold at Sochi and her teammates’ discouragement at having to go home without a medal. In the taxi, Gary says he saw all of Sang-hwa’s meets, which he recalls in detail. It’s only when they’re gone however does Kwang-soo remind his teammate that it’s each team for itself, to which Joo-hwan realizes, “Ah, this is how you betray people.” Though he’s momentarily thrown off when the mystery guest answers in (limited) English, he then recognizes the man’s laughter, and exclaims: “This guy is a bit of a show-off.”Īs the teams depart, Kwang-soo toots to Haha that they’re all in this together. Jae-suk calls his teammate to let him know when and where to meet. After choosing different means of transportation and picking up monetary allowances for the day, our teams hurry to make their flights/trains/buses.Īrriving first to their destination will mean a huge advantage, and the last-place team could face punishment. With seven teams to keep track of, I can already tell that today’s Sensibility Camping Race will be a hectic one. Last but not least, Jae-suk’s mysterious teammate will join in later today. Goodness, poor Ji-hyo looks as haggard and exhausted as can be, though she’s alert enough to recognize Dong-joon (they were both in Mandate of Heaven). And it looks like luck is on Gary’s side today again, as he’s teamed up with national speed skater Lee Sang-hwa.Įveryone is so excited to meet the two-time Olympian that ZE:A’s Kim Dong-joon‘s entrance nearly goes unnoticed he’ll be paired with yet-to-arrive Ji-hyo.Īs they wait, Haha comments that Gary is well-suited for women who like gold-Sang-hwa has two Olympic gold medals to her name while Ji-hyo probably has a whole room dedicated to her amassed golden prizes. Then there’s Kim Min-jong ( A Gentleman’s Dignity), who we haven’t seen on this show since its first Christmas special. That segues into introducing today’s guests: first up is actor Im Joo-hwan ( Watch Out for Fools), who momentarily backs away from his teammate Kwang-soo actress Kim Jung-nan ( Thrice Married Woman), who’s looking sorta matchy with Suk-jin Oh Man-seok ( King’s Family), who’s also looking matchy with Haha. Each cast member will be teamed up with one of our guests, and the boys take a moment to remark on Gary’s luck with the ladies (“He got to go visit a women’s university!”) whereas Kwang-soo isn’t as lucky. We kick off today’s episode at the SBS building, where Jong-kook affirms that he already had breakfast this morning (at 4AM, of course). But when you wonder who will having you rolling on the ground laughing all night, the answer may just surprise you. Sure it’s totally hectic when you’ve got fourteen people all trying to catch a minute of airtime, with new and old faces alike. Get ready for a cross-country race where seven different teams will travel by bus, train, or plane to the southernmost part of Korea. 62 ApApRunning Man: Episode 192 by gummimochi New Collaboration and Security Features Come to Safari When anyone in the Shared Library adds, edits, or deletes photos, the library is updated for everyone. Lot's of minimalist games like this fall into traps that make them feel derivative or obscure. This style of game can quickly turn sour with only some small changes. But on the flip side the solutions are not handed to you for free, you have to use your head a bit. Speaking of, in my experience nothing was very difficult, in the weirder puzzles it just require some process of elimination and pattern recognition. Although I did turn it off to add extra challenge. The hint system is elegant, it just removes pixel hunting. This game definitely passes that test, everything progresses smoothly at your pace. Toying around with the rules should be the core, once you understand them the solution should happen quickly. The thing I say about puzzle games is that the time it takes to execute the solution to the puzzles should be less than the time it takes to figure them out. Because there wasn't a second I wasn't excited to figure out where it was going to go next. I beat the game in about 60 minutes, but I feel like it has great value. The puzzles are super interesting, taking a simple few ideas and exploring them to their fullest-without reservation, needless obfuscation, or padding. Everything on the screen is detailed without being cluttered, something I find many games falling into. Colors and movement swirl and flex with such focus. If you're looking for something new - or maybe want to try playing something perfect - Gorogoa certainly provides.Ī short, focused, and beautiful game. At just two hours long, maybe playing it all again is the best way to do that, and it's such a great experience that would be no problem at all for me. As mentioned, there are no words, so exposition is limited, and you'll need to draw your own conclusions. The game's over for me, but I'm still thinking about it. The icing on the cake is level design that didn't have me even consider using a walkthrough, and putting all this together got me wondering what I wondered in the first paragraph. The game is seamless even on a technical level I am still impressed that I didn't spot a single hiccup in what struck me as a very complex game to make. I didn't realize this at the time, but I took away the sense of a soundtrack that fit every moment of play. At any point the music is a combination of up to four different ambient pieces. The soundtrack is in perfect harmony as well. What you get is like a gorgeous hand-drawn animated comic with not a dud panel in sight, bathing you in aesthetic history without it taking over the screen. If you can think of an architectural, artistic or religious motif, it's probably in here somewhere, and somehow, none of it clashes. The key skill is remembering symbols and patterns to spot possible connections, and Gorogoa is absolutely full of those. You often just have to play with things until you find something new. There are moments that require a bit of thinking, combining "real-world" logic with the fantastical mechanic, but you can't use logic to see how to progress everytime. I do admit that Gorogoa generally feels more like an exploration game than a puzzle game. You could give this game to anyone and they would be at ease playing it. You start off clicking around just to see what's possible, and before you know it the game has let go of your hand and is giving you puzzles. You learn everything you need to via the pictures and some UI prompts. Impressively, there are no words in the game to tell you what to do. We can only hope that we will be able to do a similar thing when we need to. It's an ideal complement to the story, as you use it to bounce a man around the eras of his past, Slaughterhouse-Five-style, colliding memories via symbols from across his life, so he can pick up what he needs to face his future. It's a new way to transform reality by changing your perspective on it, and just about every time you do it it's a revelation. The central gameplay mechanic is fascinating and unique, and as such I'll say very little about it. Gorogoa is right at home among the above games, and might be just two hours long but makes the absolute best of that time. They're a chance to cleanse your brain, slow down, meditate, get immersed - and then get your brain turned completely inside out, and be left wondering how on earth mere mortals created what you've just played. Games like Braid, The Bridge, Manifold Garden and Monument Valley provide a therapeutic change of pace from the hundreds of hours of action many games provide today. 1h 42m Played There's nothing like an ultra-artistic mind-warping indie puzzler. Note that, in this article, we have explained commonly used Teradata type conversion functions. To convert a String to INT uses sql conversion functions like cast or convert. SELECT type('123') as d_type įollowing are some of commonly used Teradata type conversion functions and examples on usage. expression expression is anything that will be converted. length It provides the length of the targettype. In short, you cannot run these functions without SELECT clause. SELECT CAST (CAST (MyVarcharCol AS NUMERIC (19,4)) AS INT) When copying data from TableA to TableB, the conversion is implicit, so you dont need the second convert (if you are happy rounding down to nearest INT): INSERT INTO TableB (MyIntCol) SELECT CAST. These conversion functions should be used within your Teradata SQL queries. To get around this just do two converts as follows: STRING -> NUMERIC -> INT. CAST ( expression AS datatype ( length ) ) CONVERT ( datatype (. is SAS format ('informat', to be exact) that tries to read in as many reasonable numeric formats as possible, it will work in. You need to replace yourstringvariable and yournewnumericvariable appropriately. To convert a String to INT uses sql conversion functions like cast or convert.
